Reno, Nevada

The Puerto Rico National Guard Association (NGAPR) delegation arrived in full force at the 145th NGAUS General Conference & Exhibition, a prominent event for more than 2,000 current and retired Guard officers from across the nation. As a pivotal event representing the voice of Army and Air National Guard officers nationwide, the conference provided a golden opportunity for our delegation to forge connections, further our professional development, and ensure that the spirit and strength of Puerto Rico's National Guard echoed through the halls of this esteemed gathering.

Key Highlights:

  1. Networking Opportunities: The NGAPR delegation seized the chance to interact and network with delegates from other states, enriching mutual understanding and fostering partnerships for future collaborations.

  2. Professional Development Sessions: Our representatives participated in numerous professional development programs. These sessions, led by eminent personalities and experts in the field, were invaluable, offering insights, expertise, and strategies vital for the growth and efficacy of our forces.

  3. Inaugural Address: The conference was graced by high-profile attendees and speakers such as Air Force Secretary Frank Kendall and Gen. Daniel R. Hokanson, chief of the National Guard Bureau. Their insights and discussions underlined the significance of the National Guard’s role on both a domestic and international stage.

  4. Conference Theme: Echoing the essence of "America’s National Guard: A Local Force with Global Reach", the speakers underscored the National Guard's extensive global footprint. The 30th anniversary of its State Partnership Program and its partnerships with 100 countries worldwide was a testament to the Guard’s international engagements spanning continents from Africa to South America.

  5. Defense Industry Exhibition: NGAPR representatives also explored the largest NGAUS trade show, which showcased innovations from over 320 defense firms. The exhibition served as a platform for the delegation to understand the latest in defense technology and services, with exhibitors ranging from global defense giants to emerging firms aiming to establish their presence.

  6. Puerto Rico's Hospitality Night: A true testament to Puerto Rican warmth and hospitality, this event emerged as the crowning jewel of the conference. Hundreds of attendees were treated to an unforgettable evening brimming with the heart and soul of Puerto Rican culture.

    • Salsa and Bomba y Plena Show: In a spectacular display of rhythm, color, and flair, we showcased the exhilarating dance forms of Salsa and Bomba y Plena. This mesmerizing performance was generously sponsored by Discover PR, allowing everyone present to experience the island's rich dance traditions.

    • A Taste of Puerto Rico: As the saying goes, "The way to a person's heart is through their stomach!" Staying true to this, attendees were served refreshing Piña Coladas and the legendary Don Q rum. It was a sensory delight that whisked everyone straight to the sandy beaches and sun-drenched days of Puerto Rico.

    • Tropical Tunes: To complete the Puerto Rican ambience, we set the mood with enchanting tropical music throughout the evening, transporting every listener to the vibrant streets and festive plazas of our island.

With the tremendous success and positive feedback received, the Puerto Rico National Guard Association is excited for what the next year will bring. We cordially invite all NGAPR members to accompany the NGAPR delegation to the next National Guard Association General Conference scheduled to take place in Detroit from 23-26 August 2024.
