The National Guard Association of Puerto Rico (NGAPR) hosted its highly anticipated Professional Development Mixer on May 11, 2023, at Salon Cordero, Parada 3 1/2. The event witnessed an impressive turnout of approximately 105 NGAPR members, as they eagerly embraced an evening of education, networking, and camaraderie. With a dynamic agenda featuring notable speakers, informative sessions, and exciting announcements, the mixer undeniably proved to be a resounding success.


Setting the stage for the evening, Colonel Paul Dahlen took charge as the Master of Ceremonies, regaling attendees with captivating stories from his recent attendance at the Legislative Summit. During this prestigious gathering, Colonel Dahlen had the opportunity to meet with the Honorable Jennifer Gonzalez, engaging in crucial discussions surrounding military construction projects that will significantly impact the Puerto Rico National Guard's future.


In a moment of great significance, Colonel Juan Alvarez, President of NGAPR, graced the stage to extend a warm welcome to all association members. Colonel Alvarez provided a comprehensive update on the diligent work carried out by the Board of Directors and various committees since October 2022. Additionally, he seized the opportunity to encourage everyone to mark their calendars for the upcoming NGAUS General Conference 2023 in Reno, Nevada, emphasizing the pivotal role of participation in fostering collective growth and progress.


Brigadier General Miguel Mendez, Acting Adjutant General of the Puerto Rico National Guard, delivered an empowering address, shedding light on the organization's goals and aspirations. The general's announcement of a bold proposal to bring the esteemed National Guard Association General Conference to Puerto Rico in 2028 ignited a spark of enthusiasm among attendees. This ambitious endeavor rallied members to actively contribute towards transforming this vision into a tangible reality.


Dr. Natasha Santiago, from IMPEL Solutions Group, took the stage for an enlightening learning session on effective communication strategies. Attendees eagerly absorbed the valuable insights and practical tools shared by Dr. Santiago, equipping them with the means to enhance communication within their respective roles and foster greater collaboration throughout the NGAPR community.


Major Jonathan Tossas, representing the Legislative Committee, delivered the latest updates on their ongoing efforts. Major Tossas showcased the committee's substantial progress, underscoring their unwavering dedication to advocating for the interests and welfare of NGAPR members within the legislative realm.


Chief Warrant Officer 2 Emmanuel Medina seized the opportunity to provide a comprehensive update on the association's marketing strategy. He also offered an exclusive preview of the frecently published NGAPR webpage, a centralized hub designed to serve as the primary source of information, news, and event updates for members. The introduction of this platform is set to revolutionize member engagement and streamline access to essential resources.


Major Noelia Roldan and Captain Keyra Pena captivated the audience with an engaging preview of the highly anticipated NGAUS General Conference, set to take place in Reno, Nevada in August 2023. They emphasized the significance of attending this prestigious event and guided members through the registration process, ensuring their inclusion in this invaluable opportunity for growth and development.


In a thrilling conclusion to the event, attendees eagerly participated in a raffle drawing that offered the chance to win vouchers for hotel reservations at the NGAUS General Conference in Reno, Nevada. Two fortunate winners walked away with $500 vouchers, while three additional winners secured $300 vouchers. The evening concluded on a high note with a lively social mixer, sponsored by the National Guard Association of Puerto Rico, which further solidified the sense of camaraderie and connection among attendees.
